Playing the 6-0 fit (Hand from 1 vs. 2 match)

A hand from the #1 versus #2 match where we didn't end up in the best spot. How should the bidding go?

We have no discussion about what is/isn't forcing in these sequences.

I think East's spades aren't good enough to bid them twice, so just give preference to 4 in the second round. West may or may not raise to 5, looks close to me.

I was on E and didn't much care for my 4S bid. I thought that 3S should be forcing here (agree?), but didn't know if 4D was and was worried that we might miss a game. If E bids 4D, then W will bid 4S with xx (or maybe honor singleton) to give a choice of games if he is going to raise?

I agree that 3 is forcing. If you are really worried that 4 will be passed out (though I would think if West has a hand where he wants to pass 4 you will often be in the right spot) then I think you would be better off just bidding 5.

Agree with this, except for the idea that West will bid again.

How can 4 be forcing? Agree with Ben that 4 COG-Q is a good choice.

I had a nearly identical sequence in a club game today. I was concerned partner could be 5-5 instead of 6-4.

How can 4 be forcing?

Because east bid a new suit at the 3 level, and west overcalled at the 3 level? It is completely weird to me that 4D would not be forcing. It seems like 1D (3H) 3S (p) 4C (p) 4D which is obviously forcing since 3S is a game force.

I don't understand how one can bid reasonably playing 4D as NF. You can easily have slams, want to find good games, etc, all they have done is preempt. Sacrificing the ability to set trumps below game when you have both shown strength and they hve shown weakness in order to play 4D does not only seem bad to me, it violates all common bidding principles that I know of.
