Deevan Posted March 3, 2012 Report Share Posted March 3, 2012 I have come across 2 versions of the Modified Wolff Convention:(a) Responder is showing at least 5 cards in both Majors, a very weak hand (not suitable for game, unless there is a Fit); basically, asking the Opener to Pass or Correct. Example:1m-1M2NT-3C (A relay to 3D. Generally showing a weak hand, with 1 exception.)3D-3OM (OM=Other Major. Responder confirms a weak hand and asks opener to pass or correct.(b) Responder is making a slam try in the Om (the other minor).1m-1M2NT-3C (A relay to 3D.Generally showing a weak hand, with 2 exceptions)3D-3OM (A Slam Try in the Other minor)The bidding shown here assumes no interference by Opponents.It is assumed that the first exception is 1m-1M-2NT-3C-3D-3NT= Slam Try in the Opener's minor.I would appreciate receiving comments, based on your own experience with the 2 versions of Modified Wolff. In particular, it may be helpfull to focus on some of the following points:1) Given the 1m-1M-2NT sequence as a START, what is the relative frequency or probability of the Responder holding (i) A 5-5 Weak M hand; vs (ii) A 5M-5Om Strong-ish hand?2) How often did the partnership forget the "agreement"?3) Of course, any other comments are most welcome.Thanks, in advance for your comments. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It seems that they cater to relatively low percentage holdings for Responder. A few examples with my "normal" version for the following sequences in Wolff Relay are: 1m - 1S2NT - 3C!3D! - 3H = 5/5, GF 1m - 1H2NT - 3C!3D! - 3S = 4/4, GF and for the 5/4 or 4/5 :1m - 1M2NT - 3C!3D! - 3oM, GF and the "sign-off" is :1m - 1M2NT - 3C!3D! - 3M (WEAK) How do you describe all of these in the "modified" that you found ? The following 3D = natural, GF, 2nd suit:1m - 1M2NT - 3D And Responder showing a Clubs as a 2nd suit, GF is:1m - 1M2NT - 3C!3D! - 3NT! = 4+♣, 10-12 hcp Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
