If partner has a doubleton honor, the low lead works out much better for your side; if a small doubleton, he can lead one back if he gets in first. Your diamond spots and the vulnerability (and your description of the meaning of 3♦ at the current colors) suggest that a diamond lead might work out terribly poorly for your side. The 10-8 does increase the chance that they have only 1 heart stopper and decreases the chance that leading high will make the suit inextricably entangled.
