Fluffy Posted February 23, 2012 Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 if partner is not a joker it will be very hard for grand to be hopeless after he shows ♠K. 5NT is the correct bid at IMPs if partner denies ♠Q because if partner denies ♦K as well you are better in 7♣ than 7NT. Reminds me of the time I picked up a 4 loser hand and heard partner open 2♣ (x, A, AKxxx, Axxxxx), but not as silly as partner's 27 count with ♦AKQJxx when he heard me open a weak 2♦. I had just moved to a new table and sat across from a guy I'd never played with before (or against - it wasn't my usual club). I picked up a 27 HCP hand and I was rather shocked when he did open on the one level. It turned out he had a 12 count and we were only missing a jack.
