Exactly this. Double is at once flexible enough to bring the spades in, and the hand is good enough that I don't mind bidding 2♦ over 2♣ and showing a hand to strong to bid 2♦ directly. Double and only show diamonds if you have to. You might also be playing with a 3 suit deck. If partner shows more than a required bid, maybe slam is in the cards. ggwhiz Posted February 23, 2012 Report Share Posted February 23, 2012 My pard and I play that an equal level conversion (ie pard bids 2♣ and we bid 2♦) does NOT promise extras which makes this an auto double even with lesser hands. The marginal hands just show primary diamonds with a side order of spades, useful at MP's. I would have to jump to 3♦ (over 2♣) on this one to show the good hand but I think it is good enough.
