Hi.

I started the hand of the week discussion group with a couple of ideas in mind.

1) To try and attract new users from the BBO gaming site here to post the hands they are really proud of. Once they come, maybe they will particpate in other parts of the forum.

2) To highlight real world hands played on BBO that someone got :"right" maybe for the right reason(s).

3) To entertain and amuse our regulars by trying to find and hgihlight hands bid or played by "one of us" every now and then.

I think, so far, #1 has been pretty much a failure. I still hope that soon an "ad" for this feature will appear in the popup news. #2 and #3 have been partially sucessful, but we seem to be stuck with the same 8 to 11 voters (I bet I can guess who most of these voters are).

Like the votes in the beginner polls, your vote here counts. If the vote is to end this group, I will merger these threads into interesting hands, and no future contest will be held. Roughly one week to vote.

I think it's going to take a long time for this to work, like a year. As long as you're willing to do it, I'm all in favor of it. After all, except for a few K on the server, what does it harm? It's like announcing the winners in a tourney.

One possibility if this isn't working is to have a BBO Hand of the Week tourney. Once the tourney is finished, people submit to the host hands they're proud of, and the host records them here. That might generate more interest.

An excellent Idiea JT.. if the discussion group stays alive, I will give this a try. Thanks. So far it is leaning towards killing it, but it is still early in the voting..

I did not vote for any of the options listed.

1) I think JT's idea is not bad at all (BBO Hand of the Week tourney)

2) However, I do think once a week is too much, better make it the "hand of the month" contest.

Let's not forget that the regular BB Forum contributors (e.g. not counting the "lurkers") are maybe around 10 per day.

It is true there are more lurkers, but for their nature, they tend to read but not participating to the threads (hence to the polls too).

Soo in my opinion it is nice, but 15+ voters from this audience will probably be a disappointed expectation.

Ben, if you can, try to keep it, though i didnt vote. But it will be good for the forum. hopefully more good hands will come:)

You really should vote, because I will honor the majority vote.. If the total number of "yes" votes is highest, I will keep it going if the total number of no votes is highest, I will kill it. There are other things we can try. A master solver concept keeps coming up, and we will probably try that whether or this discussion group lives or dies.
