Phil
[hv=pc=n&s=saj92ha6d853cakq2&w=sq63h72dqj62ct953&n=s754hj8543da9cj87&e=skt8hkqt9dkt74c64]399|300[/hv] Here was a hand from our KO final from the Fabulous Palm Springs sectional on Saturday. (yes that's what its called LOL). Our teammates reached 3N on the NS cards after East opened 1♥ in 3rd. A heart was led and due to the lucky spade position, declarer was on pace to win 3+1+1+4. However, Victor Anikovich found the nice play of the ♠K on the first round of the suit. Try and make 9 tricks now. At my table, my RHO checked out 1♥x'd. We lost 7 on this board and the match by 5. aguahombre
The play of the King...somewhat well known...was much nicer on this hand than East could have imagined. Declarer now gets to commit suicide in diamonds before he gets his spades. Bravo.
dwar0123
I admit at the table I would probably get this wrong, but double dummy, you take the ace♠ use the jack♣ as an entry and finesse the 10♠ for the same 9 tricks. At the table I would probably assume it is kq♠ tight but there is no harm in crossing over with the jack of clubs and leading through it. When he plays small I will probably guess wrong but oh well. Guess that knock me down a peg for blindly trusting op.
