#$&@ Computer hands!

This was the wildest hand from the local club game last night, and caused at least three people to comment to me about the "nature" of computer dealt hands. Whatever.

What is your plan here?

If you double:

The auction continues (rdbl*)-pass-(2C) back to you.

*transfer to clubs

If you bid 2H:

The auction continues (2NT*)-pass-(3C) back to you.

*lebensohl

If you bid 2NT:

Your partner's head explodes.

EDIT: To accomodate ArtK78. If you bid 4H:

You bought it. Down 1.

Someone will have to explain to me why I wouldn't bid 4.

I'm not saying 4H is wrong, but if partner has KQx and the A we make 7, so that's a reason not to bid 4H. And it sounds like he doesn't have the world's most robust spade suit, so this is not unlikely. And to boot, a small slam may only hinge on the ace of diamonds if partner has xxx or Hx. And we might make 6D but go down in 4H!

I kind of like 2N. When we find a replacement for pard and have cleaned up at least most of the mess (those cards are super dirty anyway, whatever), I can make more noise. 2N should be 2 places to play, neither of which is spades (I think), but I think the auction gets ugly after partner's expected 3C. What am I supposed to do? 4D? Am I sure that shows this hand? Yuck.

If I know LHO is going to run, I'm happy to dbl and then cuebid. But I don't know that at the table, and I think it's unlikely that we will beat 1430 in 1Nx, as that will require 13 tricks (and then we could get 2210.

Man this is a good problem. I'll try 2N and 4H. No I'm not sure that partner won't think that I have both minors and am splintering for clubs. But I've gotta do something.

I'm going to bid 2 and bid 4 over them. The lack of a X and also the jump should give partner the idea that I'm not weak but that I have 0 interest in 1ntX and I have a lot of red cards (should show 6/5 or better) 3 could be a weaker 2 suiter than I have, less shape/HCP's.

I'll bid 5 over 5 if it happens. I don't think I want to be that high but with 7-6 I'll go if pushed.

I used to play 2N as any 2 suiter that doesn't want to double but is very strong OR a LR+ in spades. I never had the first hand type and it hurts your LR+ hand type in spades too much esp if they have psyched, so I scratched that and just play it as LR+ in spades now. Oops!

I also play 2NT as LR+ with 4+ support. I think it is important to have such a bid.

After double: I imagine that Rdbl after our double was not a transfer to clubs but forced 2C, after which advancer can correct to 2D. This makes it more difficult because advancer has not promised clubs. Perhaps 3C or 4C should now show the other two suits, although a case can be made for 3C as natural, especially if double of 2C is takeout. I wouldn't be confident about the meaning of 3C or 4C at the table. I think that a jump to 3H is forcing though, so we could bid 3H and then 4D. I prefer this auction, it's unlikely that 1NTX is passed out.

After 2H: it seems straightforward to jump to 4D now, but I don't like 2H.

About 4H: Mikeh would point out that he would hate to explain to his teammates why they went down in 4H with 7D cold. I agree.

If your partner's head explodes, the TD has a problem.

Not really, they just award 'average plus' to the non-offending side for the incomplete board. The paramedics might have a problem though :o

The whole hand:

[hv=pc=n&s=saq9853hdj984ca54&w=skjt72hkqt3dack87&n=sha976542dkqt752c&e=s64hj8d63cqjt9632&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1s1n]399|300[/hv]

Results on this one were all over the map. At our table NS had a bit of an accident and played in 3D, but they weren't alone. Only one pair bid the diamond slam. (The West at their table also overcalled 1NT.) A couple of 4H-1, some 5D, one NS pair got brutalized in spades, etc.

I have the agreement that 2 shows without support. I'll start with that. I guess opener will rebid 2 after which I can bid 3 natural and forcing. Works great on this hand, doesn't work that well (sometimes) when I have a weak hand with looooong s.
