Despite being one of the biggest fans of take out doubles, this can hardly be one. But our opps usually know what they are doing, so it is no pen. either. So it is: Strong hand without a clue, aksing me to do something intelligent. I try 2 NT, wrongsiding it, but showing the nature of my hand.

Im play semi penalty here. Opener had the chance to XX (support) , bid 1Nt,2C or 2D so his hand is fairly limited and a takeout X is not optimal. You just switch the X and 2nt at almost no cost. X show at least a 2nt bids but may lack a stopper. With a 5134,4135 you just bid 2Nt. Opps can easily be in a 43 fit going for -300 while we have no game. My second choice is 3S, IMO this show exactly 2344/2353 with 14 points since i failed to act the round before.

What we do with a 5=1=3=4 9 count?

2Nt takeout with both m, like i said i expect partner to pass often here so i wont X with only 9 pts. Bidding 2Nt might lead to a 43 fit rather than 5-2 fit at one level higher but you will be ruffing from the short trump hand.

For those who bid 2S, why not show a maximum ? Partner know you will pas the X fairly frequently here so hes not going to X with crap. We have a nice 14 here and if partner has 11 pts and H shortness 4S look good.

lol at the early replies, sorry. Of course bid 2S. Double is "takeout," how shocking. You have denied 3 spades so you bid 2S with Hx and 2344 obv. Partner's 3D bid is now forcing (else 3D to begin with). You now bid 3H with Axx of hearts and a great hand for diamonds. I consider this completely normal bidding.

I bid 3 wich for me clearly shows antipositional stopper, willing to raise 3 into 4 if needed.

But partner bid 4 and I felt in a ofrcing situation having to raise to game. Not a succes, partner had

-100 was a flat board against 3NT at the other table.
