But if this is passed out, partner may hold AKxx,AKxx,Dxx,Dxx or the like and you miss 3 NT. You can construct hands where even 7 clubs or diamonds has play and you play it in 1 Diamond....And if the points are equaly divided, you make it MUCH easier for them to find a fit when you pass instead of bidding 1 NT.So, with all respect for Kathryn, she used her head, came with an off beat solution- and got very lucky that she did not miss a game.
