high level decisions

Recommended Posts

I'm tempted to say 5, but I think that shows more then you have.

Pass is forcing I assume, implying you are inclined to bid 5 but just want to let partner have a chance to weigh in first.

5 would show weak defense but with two aces you are not sure that is best, though it is close, your shape really wants to declare.

Double would be for blood and you are to distributional for that and two aces is at best two tricks.

So I think I would pass, but I would be very tempted to bid 5

We had a 60% game at the club today and a few tough (for me) decisions..

Pd's 4 either shows a lot of or a lot of shape with 4 card , and not too much strength. All of this makes defending 4 extremely dangerous for me, i would bid 5 hoping to make or making them bid 1 more.

While on this hand, I see this as a non-issue, I don't think that this should be a forcing pass. I see the vulnerability, but the fact is that partner preempted. His 4 call was not a declaration that this hand belonged to us...it was an attempt to apply pressure on the opps and to buy the hand.

I bid 5.

Partner cannot have the hand I need for slam....2 Aces and a 2nd round club control (not Kxx) and long trump isn't a 4 bid.

I have poor defence.....it isn't tough to find layouts on which both sides take 11 tricks, and, if we make 5, they surely rate to have a great save even if they go down.

So I can't afford to describe my hand to the opps.....the only benefit would be if we have a good red v white save at the 6-level, and looking for such contracts is not a good way to play matchpoints (or imps).

5 is just too dangerous in terms of giving them information.
