Phil
4♦ is not my style with two bullets. Furthermore, if partner cue 4♥, and I am looking at two aces, why aren't I bidding slam? South is supposed to guess that partner has a heart control? OK, South gets 10% of the charge.
phil_20686
I would have bid slam with the south cards opposite 4d, with xxxx in the heart suit there is a good enough chance that partner is short, and that is enough for small slam. I'm not really sure how I feel about 4d, its not my style, but preempts should be variable etc etc, but I think once south bid 4H north must do more. He has a great hand for a 4d bid. wyman
North could hardly have more for his 4D bid (in fact, he has too much imo). 100% N.
rduran1216
a companion question might be, what is the right call with the N hand, is it 5D?
JLOGIC
No, you either overcall 2D or 4D. 5D would be insane. After you bid 4D and your partner bids 4H, obv bid either 5H or 4N. I was thinking 5H was better but then I realized 4N followed by 5N would show 2 aces and partner would thus know your hand so that's probably better. wank
4 diamonds is fine. 5 diamonds is not (on the 1st or 2nd round). my pre-empts are underwritten by lloyds insurance market but even i would think i had a good hand for slam with 2 bangers. methinks this thread has been misfiled. MrAce
It is 2♦ for me.
rogerclee
I would tell north that aces are good cards.
kenrexford
North should cue the heart control, obviously.

Presumably partner could have a singleton king. I think we should ask for keycards, then bid the queen ask. If partner has Kx, he'll know that trumps are solid. We probably wouldn't have bid 4♦ with ♦AJ10xxxx and a side ace, but if we did have that the finesse through opener would probably be odds-on. JLOGIC
Yes of course you are right. I just meant we can show our exact hand by bidding keycard, I was lazy in implying we should show the trump queen which we obv shouldn't.
