the hog
My partner opened 2D, next hand held this. Are you going to bid? How safe do you think this is? (2D) Weak 2 in a Major KxxAxA9xxKJxx
MickyB
It is dangerous to get involved, but you have to unless you want to miss games. I usually play double as 13-15 bal or any 18+ or something similar, which solves the problem. If I don't have this available, I have a choice between bidding and risking a double, and passing which risks being preempted. Think I would go for a 2N overcall. (2D) Weak 2 in a Major KxxAxA9xxKJxx You may get another chance. I play multi-vesus-multi and can overcall here with 2♥ to show a GOOD 15 to 19 hcp, balanced and stopper in both majors suits. This 15 falls just short of good. So I probably will pass, but 2♥ is also a possilbe bid.
Antoine Fourrière
2♥ if it is available to show a takeout of hearts, 2N otherwise. I think it is safer to act now than later. (I would double a 2♥ opening and bid 2N over a 2♠ opening.)
Fluffy
I have a 12-15 balanced hand double of multi, so there is no problem to me.
the hog
Not that this proves anything, but if you bid on this hand, or X, you end up with -1400. Making your 2 aces only. I would have bid 2N as well. Lucky that I was sitting in the opposite seats. I was just curious if anyone would decide to pass. EarlPurple
South held that hand. What do you do over 2♦-X? Risk a redouble? (Presumably a willingness to play it, even in a likely 4-2 fit here). Presumably the multi bidder here has: QJTxxxQxxQxxx and yes, it looks 2♦ on the 4-2 fit is cold. Sorry David Burn.. EarlPurple
And 2NT went 5 off when I set it up against Jack.
mcphee
I like to play that a major bid in this postion is a t/o dble of the other major, dble is strong balanced 17+ and 2NT is 14-16. I beleive I would opt for 2S with 2NT a close second. I prefer 2S because I would have lebensohl available. If you have never gone for 1400 you have not played long enough.
