phil_20686
[hv=pc=n&w=sqjt87h2d2ckj8762]133|100[/hv] You are Vul vs Not. What do you bid on the two auctions above?
Codo
There is no "pass" option in both cases, despite the fact that partner passed and we are red against white?
phil_20686
There is no "pass" option in both cases, despite the fact that partner passed and we are red against white? Sorry, an oversight, fixed it now.
whereagles
1. 3H seems clear. Shape rulezzzz. 2. Normally pass, but 4S if I feel lucky. I'll worry about the clubs if this gets doubled :)
aguahombre
1. I probably should have chosen the OBAR 2S bid; Michaels, leaping or straight, at these colors is a disaster waiting to happen. But, I wimped a pass. 2. Maybe I don't understand the Scottish humor prompting the question.
phil_20686
2. Maybe I don't understand the Scottish humor prompting the question. :) When this hand went round my email thread a number of good players voted for 4S (including myself). Hence the poll. It may be worth bearing in mind that the hand comes from the Swiss fruit machine that is the Scottish trials.
MrAce
1-2♠ 2-4♠, i thought this was easy, after all we are completing the transfer, no ?
Phil
1. 3♣. I'm planning on bidding 4♠ over 4♥, or 3♠ over 3♥ even though this feels kind of sick to me. If I am not planning on competing, then why wouldn't I try to get my shape across? 2. 4♠. Easier than the 1st.
HighLow21
A lot depends on how the 4♥ bid is defined, to me. If it's a preemptive game bid with a singleton somewhere and 5 trumps, I'd venture 4♠ and think again if doubled back to me. If it's a mixed bid or if there's any chance responder has a decent hand I wouldn't touch it. On a good day, partner will have good support for a black suit. On a bad day, he'll have 2 small black doubletons and KJ9 in both red suits. I don't like Michaels on the first auction because I really would rather find a spade game if it's there, rather than languish in a club partscore; I will keep my clubs a secret if they win the auction. And if they do, the declarer isn't going to appreciate all 4 suits splitting poorly. Why tell him in advance?
