FILES GET OVERWRITTEN IN ISTANBUL!

The online Vugraph from the Istanbul Olympiad is a treat and has

managed to attract a lot of spectators, but... the Vugraph operators

are using IDENTICAL headings for the transmissions and these

headings become the filenames of the lin files (for instance: "12th

Bridge Olympiad Segment 1/17 - Open Room"). Since this happens

in two matches, whatever match ends last is OVERWRITING the other.

And this happens both in the user's hard disk (unless user is aware

and intervenes) AND in the automatic logging system.

So, from Round 1, the lin file for USA-Australia was lost.

The same risks happening in Round 2. And it is a pity, because if

only one operator modifies slightly the heading there will be

no problem. For instance, the Italian operator could write in

Italian.

I tried to notify to various BBO people online, but apparently in vain.

Anyway, I was there and caught the files, but...

Yes this is a great pity :) - the same thing is going to happen in Round 2 and we are going to lose the benefits of automatic logging. The matches of Guadelope v Italy and Germany v India have exactly the same name:

"12th World Bridge Olympiad-Segm.2/17-Open/Closed Room"

The operators are obviously unaware of the problem so need to be told to distinguish between matches eg they could give Country names as in:

"12th Olympiad-Segm.2/17-GUAvITA -Open/Closed Room"

"12th Olympiad-Segm.2/17-GERvIND -Open/Closed Room"

This way the recorded lins have different (and more meanigful) file names and all matches are recorded.

At the Australian National Championships earlier this year, where I was undertaking 4-table coverage, I gave each operator a standard naming format basically encompassing the event name (04ANC), section (O for Open, W for Women, etc.), Round # and table # - e.g. 04ANC O R3 T1.

It was my understanding that the BBO software automatically appended the names of the competing teams to the LIN filename - but I was using an older version of the software.

I purposefully chose a short naming standard so it could be quickly typed in when starting a broadcast.
