aguahombre
welcome....Yes...lots of posters can. Probaby would help to know the venue involved and jurisdiction, though. On-line? Face to Face?

JustaDummy
For bad behaviour on Bridge Base Online contact abuse@bridgebase.comI tried that yesterday, when I kibbed a player abusing another player. I got an automated message saying that I should reply without changing the subject line, as a spam fitering procedure. I did that. The email bounced. I tried twice, the second time removing the "Re: " which my mail app automatically prefaces the Subject with. It bounced again. I've sent a copy of the bounce message to postmaster@bridgebase.com but I have no faith that anything will happen. Meanwhile, my message to abuse@ has gone unnoticed…

Meanwhile, my message to abuse@ has gone unnoticed…You may not hear back from abuse, but every complaint is investigated and should action be taken, you will not be told. While you are playing, if bad language is being used, you can also speak to a yellow. Note, if someone is sending you private chat with bad language, calling a yellow will not help directly, as yellows can't see what is sent to you privately. Second, if the bad language is over, and you call a yellow to your table, he can not see what chat was there before he arrived... even if you can scroll back to see it. However, yellows can still help, as they can speak to the person sending the bad messages, and/or help you report it to abuse, who can check what was said in the past. Antrax
inquiry, if the email bounced it means nobody at abuse@ saw it.
barmar
I just sent a test message to abuse, got the validation request, replied to that (with the Re: -- I think it really only cares about the stuff in {...}), and it worked fine (I got an auto-reply saying that a ticket had been opened). Could you post the bounce message here as well?

Could you post the bounce message here as well?Sure, and thanks for trying to help! Looking at the error message it denies validity of my email address. Is that because I use "bridgebaseonline" in my email address? I do that to identify sources of spam.===This is the mail system at host mail1.bridgebase.com. diana_eva
I think that is the reason. as far as i know bridgebase address cannot send mails to support / abuse. So i cannot email abuse@bridgebase.com from diana_eva@bridgebase.com why do you use bridgebase in your email address?

So i cannot email abuse@bridgebase.com from diana_eva@bridgebase.com why do you use bridgebase in your email address? It isn't a bridgebase email address! Why should the system care what appears before the @? That is surely elective on behalf of the owner of the email address. I do that with all my web affiliations, to identify sources of spam. So if that mailbox gets spam, since I only ever use that email address in connection with BBO, then I can complain to BBO as the source of the spam. I will not change that. The bottom line: will my notification of abuse get through?
diana_eva
I was asking out of curiosity :) Not sure what our policy is about using the name bridgebase in various contexts.
barmar
I'll check with the other programmers to see if we have a reason for checking this on both sides of the @, and fix it if possible. For now, you can use a different name, e.g. act.bbo. FYI, the list of things it looks for and rejects are "bridgebase", "daemon", "postmaster", and "root@". aguahombre
As a non-technical type, it seems quite common for spam deterence programs to automatically spam email from usernames which contain the same wording found in the intended recipient's email address. I can send email to myself, but anything else sent from an alleged aguahombre or Waterman goes directly to my Yahoo Spam folder.

I replied to the automated message but changed the sender's email address to another address I use for general emails, and the email bounced, this time because the sender address was not the same as the original recipient address. I'll have to resend the original abuse report using a more acceptable email address. This sucks, sorry. How can a system send an automated "please reply" message to an email address from which it will not accept a response?

How can a system send an automated "please reply" message to an email address from which it will not accept a response? The initial script checks specifically for @bridgebase.com, the second script isn't as specific. I'll fix them to be consistent with each other.

barmar
I've fixed both scripts now. If you haven't already resent the abuse mail, you can respond to the validation message now and it should go through.
