which is a good reason for opening 1s to start with... but given the actual bidding, i'd bid 2s also... if pard for some reason jumps to 4s, i'll just hafta do my best

with clubs and spades many open 1c even with 5-5, so with 6-5 i go with clubs for sure.

I have a weird response for you.

Pass.

The bidding isn't over, there are far too many points missing. Even if the bidding comes back at you at 4, you won't be too unhappy to think about 4 since your partner has not much or has already doubled 4. 5026 is a pretty good shape to be saccing with.

I know a lot of people will disagree with this answer, but it is another choice.

I fully agree, 2S gives completely wrong impression: "bridge is a partnership game". Thank God I don't have this problem: I open 2 (Muiderberg).

Not playing Muiderberg I would open 1.

I don't like partner's 1NT bid much. It looks much easier to simply support . I figure with 5 cards in overcaller's suits opener is almost bound to have at least 5.

Having said that, I think that you must really bid 2 here. It is encumbent on the player short in opponents' suit to act. If you pass, partner will almost always have no bid to make.

For those who open 1, I ask what happens if the bidding goes 1 (2) P (P) back to you? Now you are in an even worse position than if you had opend 1!

This was partner's hand

Dealer: ?????
Vul: ????
Scoring: Unknown
104
J7652
J74
AQ6

I passed, sure i really wanted to bid something but didnt think of anything i can.

they made 2h+1 for 140, and we got 0 mp.

why 2h+1 is so good for them? dont they have some play in 3N?

No not even close. we can probebly make 5 club.

Since I can't bid 2S now, I would have opened 1S.

In my partnerships, opening a minor and then showing a five card major (e.g. 1C-1H-1S-1NT-2S) shows serious extras. I would open 1C on Jxxxx - Kx AJ10xxx, but it is unlikely that I can show my 5-card spade suit in that case.

I will not open. I open a hand with Bergen count of 20 when HCP is at least 10 with no wasted honor. But I agree that 1C is a better opening than 1S.

Now that I have opened 1C, I would bid 2S (and wish pd would not take it as a reverse).

I would take it as reverese if i were ur pd,hehe.

Too many losers??? :) You only have 6 at most! I would NEVER open this as muiderberg, you're too strong...

Opening 1 however might be better on this hand, but many guys will open 1 because it's their longest suit. It's a matter of preference imo, but you will easily miss your fit imo.
