blackshoe
I dunno, maybe I should put this in the "pet peeves" thread. :) Here's what happened today: [hv=pc=n&s=skqjt8752had4ckjt&w=sht986daqj876c864&n=sa43hkq74d3ca7532&e=s96hj532dkt952cq9&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=p1s2d4s5d6spp7ddppp]399|300[/hv] Eight tables. The four tables where EW did the best were the ones where NS didn't bid the slam, and EW defended 4 or 5♠ making six or seven. Partner made the eight tricks I figured she'd make, and we got slightly below average. Very annoying. :( At three tables, 6♠ made six. At two tables 4 or 5♠ made six and and at two others that contract made seven. We, of course, were down 5 doubled. Would you have made the sac? RunemPard
I would of probably come in with 3♦ from west to better clarify how many points I have and that I promise only help in diamonds... I would be tempted to try it though.
RunemPard
But I play a simple overbid as 10+ points also...not 7+
jmcw
I wouldn't make any of the bids E/W made. The 2♦ call is pretty bad, and I don't much care for substituting 3♦. On the given auction. I would pass 6♠.
Statto
Very annoying. :(Seems you were fixed, but got a better result than defending 6♠ (assuming it's MPs) :) Would you have made the sac?No, not enough shape, and we might be defeating 6♠ if partner had their bid (tho I can see a reason for it which is if you had a ♥ suit). neilkaz
West is a King light for a vulnerable o/c IMHO but assuming that West has his bid, East can envision that 6♠ may not make and should not sac.

On the given auction. I would pass 6♠. I agree with this. 5D is a very poor call; you have no expectation of making and all you are doing is announcing your fit to the opponents. In a good field, by the way, I would expect everyone to be in slam.
