What do you play over 2NT! ( ask ) by Responder ?

2D! - 2NT! ("ask" )

.. 3C! = Max weak-2 in a major; 3D!= relay, bid the major you don't have .

.. 3D! = Min weak-2 in ( transfer )

.. 3H! = Min weak-2 in ( transfer )

.. 3S! = A K Q .. solid

..3NT! = A K Q .. solid

The question is whether Responder is strong enough to "ask" and then go to game if a Max in .

However, with a max in , I think I would rather not be in game.

But the above structure won't allow a sign-off in 3H when Opener shows a max in ( with a 3S! bid ) .

Interesting...really no way to know if game is solid unless you have spot on reply bids.

Really only interested in spades here (hoping for partner to have 6 spades w/ KQ and 9-11 pts.

Probably bid 2H and if your partners suit is spades I would go up to game.

(Assuming 2H is a simple weak bid)...

What style of multi do you play? If it is weak only, I would bid 4 p/c. If you could have lots of strong hands, 2 or 2NT to see what partner has.

Why assume that 2NT is an 'ask' by responder?

It's more efficient to play that 2NT is a puppet to 3C, for responder to describe their hand, and that 3C asks for suit and min/max

I am not sure. I think hands which want to describe themselves opposite multi are relatively rare and hands which wants to ask about stuff like strength, suit quality etc are frequent, you also want to right side the contract.

I would be happy with 2N ask and 3C puppet.

+A elsewhere and game is good, and the 3 level is fairly safe . So it all depend of what are you enquiry responses are. Not obvious. Sometimes bidding a chicken 2H and depending on where the opps compete you reevaluate your hand but here its not really possible since if they compete in clubs partner will be more likely to have 2C than a stiff club.

It's the usual stuff... if pard has a major singleton, game is good. Else it's bad.

{hand posted with club singleton}

Yup, that's what I thought: with the right singleton across, it makes.I've been observing his trend. Might very well revise my weak 2 responses.
