It would be nice to be able to bid 5N and then correct to 6 as a grand slam try without a club control, with 6 followed by 6 as a grand try with clubs controlled, but I don't think that's what the 5N sequence shows...after all, if partner were to bid 6, our 6 would sound like spades and diamonds.

6 seems clear to me, and I echo Justin's fear that we are missing 7. Anyone who bids less than slam here doesn't deserve this sort of hand on this sort of auction.

What would you do? Revoke their license?

Having 3 small opposite a void is huge. You are playing with a 30 point deck and you have 13 of them, and partner doubled at the 4 level (although obv he could be pretty light with a club void, a perfecta like Kxxxx Axxx Axxx --- makes 7 very good). Having 9 trumps is important on this type of hand, especially with such bad spade spots. It is not a sure thing we have 9 trumps, partner could double with 3550 or 3460, but it's pretty likely when partner has a club void. Basically I am saying on top of having 13 of the 30 points, you also have the 5th trump. Edited by JLOGIC

One needs a licence to play bridge? Sh*t....all these years, and I thought I could just show up.

No, I'd just take the imps. Or does anyone think partner will raise 5 with KQxx Axxx Axxx x? Now, if he did, I would really want to take away his licence.

Umm, just noticed instead of r/r we are now w/r. I would def strongly consider ripping them at w/r. We are probably getting 800, and if we're getting only 500 there is extreme shape which means maybe slam is down? I dunno. It seems weird to play for 980 vs 500, I don't think I've ever done that with 5332 lol. But I guess maybe it depends on the opps and partner.

This reminds me of the old joke about someone calling Microsoft customer support because he could not get his computer to work. After a series of questions, the tech determines that the caller did not plug the computer into the power supply. So he tells the caller to pack everything up in its original packaging "because someone as stupid as you does not deserve a computer!"

Well that makes me feel a little better anyway.

Even with the obvious club void, I worried about losing a trump and another trick playing spades. I figured 500 was in the bag and 800 possible, so that's what I went for.

Going to assume my pard's double here is promising atleast one ace and a likely void...

5NT=Aces?

--6C=SINGLE+1/3

--6D=SINGLE+2

--6H=VOID+1

--6S=VOID+2

--6N=VOID+3

If my partner has both aces outside of clubs w/ a void in clubs he will reply 6S. Then you can decide on a pass or 7S.

Have never used this bid and just thought of it now...but I think it would work for these rare strong major over weak minor hands.

Only problem I can see from my above post is if the suit held is hearts followed by a 6S. This would mean that you can only use this bid for hearts if you hold atleast one ace...but as I said above...you will not see these hands often, and it is better IMO to have some kind of weapon over a rock you found on the ground.
