Finch
Partner deals, you are NV vs Vul, IMPs (32-board KO match)[hv=pc=n&s=skj632hdk6ckj8532&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1d2sp3h(non-forcing)p4h]133|200[/hv] Now what?
gnasher
The pass of 2♠ hasn't turned out very well. Knowing that the opponents had a 9-card heart fit, maybe it would have been better to bid 3♣? I could double, showing a hand that wanted to defend 2♠x, but it seems rather dangerous with no hearts and no aces. Partner will often leave it in, expecting me to have a more defensive hand than this. The opponents apparently think they can make 4♥, and they may be right. If partner is 13xx or 1453, we might do quite well in clubs. If he's 1462 I'd prefer to defend 4♥ than struggle in a 6-2 fit that's breaking badly, but I can't cater for everything. I'd bid 4NT, offering a choice between the minors.
Statto
Now what?Double and hope to take a nice plus if partner has something in ♥ or even just has their bid. If partner pulls to 5m, I don't mind, it should have every chance of making...
mike777
As a nonexpert I would have doubled, but this must be wrong, very wrong. Granted I aint got no aces or even no trumps.
Fluffy
If partner leads ♥A and hearts are as it seems 7330 around I think they can be restricted to 6♥ ♠A and another ace for 2 down. but the timing must be perfect, on the other hand we make 10/11 tricks in clubs opposite a minimum. I would double at MPs, but at IMPs I take my insurance in 5♣. IMO 4NT would show 3♦ 6♣, or 4-7, this is too much disparity.
whereagles
Dbl. Pard's expectancy is a balanced 12-14 or red 54, opposite which I want to defend this. Obviously this could turn out wrong, but that's the price to pay for not having bid 3C before :)
Phil
Agree that the pass of 2♠ didn't work out well, however we aren't robots and it's easy to look at KJxxx and be licking your chops. Additionally, LHO won't always pull with six hearts so passing could be right. LHO was not under pressure and bid 3♥. I'm not looking at a lot of defense, and even though partner hasn't figured out I have a penalty pass of 2♠, doubling here does not seem sound with a void I also think it's Fantasyland to pretend partner is pulling our double with a weak NT with something like Qxxx which looks like the best outcome for doubling. I wouldn't be surprised if most of partners hand was in the minors. If that is the case, then this could be a double game swing if RHO has shortness in one of the minors and why shouldn't he? He preempted R/W. I have the wrong minor lengths for 4N, so 5♣.
Finch
The winning action is to double, which is +800.You can't make 5♣ (or 5♦), the only making game is 3NT. The problem with bidding 3C on the first round is that you aren't at all certain that your hand is worth a game force.
