Improving Polls

Recommended Posts

When there is a poll which allows multiple votes, the bars/percentages appear to measure the fraction of the total votes cast. A good example is here

where the first box accounts for more than 70% of the unique individuals who voted, but only comes out as 25% of the votes. Indeed If a voter came along and voted for the first third and fifth options, the vote share of the first option would go down. This just seems unnecessarily confusing. I think you should change the percentages to be the fraction of all the unique users who voted for at least one option. This would be more representative of the voting.
