straube
We have 1D-1S, 2H and higher rebids to use as raises. What are your rebids awm? Ours are... 2H is 13-152S is 10-12 and then our 2N bid asks what sort of raise. We have to deal with 3-4-1-5, 3-1-4-5, 3-1-5-4 as well as the 4-cd raises. awm
We use: 2♥ = good raise; 4-card support with singleton and 11-13, or 3-card support with shortness and 13-15, or 4-card support with 13 and two doubletons2♠ = bad raise; 11-13 balanced or 11-13 with three-card support only; can be 3-card support with a side singleton or small doubleton2NT = void somewhere; 40(45) or 4405 or 44503♣ = natural, 6/5 or better with good values3♦, 3♥, 3♠ = 14-15 hcp with 4-card support and high/mid/low shortness respectively After 1♦-1♠-2♥, we use 2NT as a relay to ask about type of hand where: 3♣ = three-card support, short somewhere (3♦ asks)3♦, 3♥, 3♠ = same as direct rebids of 3♦-3♠ but now 11-13 hcp3NT = 4-card support with 13 and two doubletons After 1♦-1♠-2♠ we use 2NT as natural non-forcing invite (note we raise a lot on balanced hands with a doubleton and 3-card support). 3♠ is also natural non-forcing invite. Other three-level suit bids are game forcing and natural, maybe just looking for the best game (not necessarily slammish).
straube
Thanks. I was mapping out continuations for 1D-1M, 2N and noticed that if one uses 3C as a GF relay (asking the void and setting up for further relays) that one is short of space for making a GI inquiry to see whether partner is min/max or has a useful void. For spades, one has 3C to find out at least min strength and one of three voids, but there simply isn't the space for hearts. I'm guessing 3C is the GF relay for both, 3M is to play and 3 other is a generic GT. Is that what you do? Btw, what do you think of my 1D-2m structure? Isn't there a strong case for 2C as possibly a D/C canape?
awm
We don't play 1♦-1♠-2NT-3♣ as necessarily game force. Opener rebids: 3♦ = short hearts (3♥ is GF shape ask, 3♠ is NF but can be raised on a max)3♥ = short diams (3♠ is NF but can be raised on a max, 3NT is relay, we don't really play 3NT with a fit and a void)3♠ = short clubs, minimum values (not forcing, but 3NT is relay)3N = short clubs, extras (4♣ relay for AKQ points) 3♦ is "asking for shape only if max" and 3♥ is "random game try, don't tell about the void" these don't come up much, usually we bid 3♣ or 3♠. For hearts, we use 1♦-1♥-2♠ as the void-showing bid (remember, we open 2♦ on 6♦/4M hands) so we are a step lower.
straube
I see. So I suppose you can ask for QPs after those responses. I'm wondering if we then need to switch our 2S and 2N rebids. 1D-1H, 2N=6 diamonds.....3D-higher shortness..........3S-1462..........3N-0463..........4C-0472..........4D-1471.....3H-2461.....3S-3460.....3N-2470.....4C-1471 Think that's better? straube
one could use antisplinters... 1D-1S, 2N- 3C-relays for splinter3D-GI, I like high shortness.....3H-how about middle shortness.....3S-how about lower shortness3H-GI, I like middle shortness.....3S-don't have it3S-GI, I like lower shortness
