Yet another example

Go through the first 7 tricks to see the ending and notice several important points of technique:

- the farsighted unblock of the Queen of clubs at trick 1

- the careful play of the trump suit

- the importance of rectifying the count at trick 7

- the delicate order in which the cards were played to the last 6 tricks

What's going on with this one? South's hand is high after trick 7.

The best example of this kind of thing I've seen so far is when my LHO held a 4333 hand. Each suit was a run of cards and the hand had one of each rank - something like AKQJ 765 1098 432. Pretty lame compared to having the last trick consist of all 9's :)

Oh, I guess yesterday partner did win a trick with a 5 (everyone following), but I think most people have achieved that.

ahydra

My partner (unintentionally) got to this 11 card ending - not sure if it counts since she had to lose the final trick (though it would have made it so much better if somehow South had the K for a double whammy but unfortunately the contract would have failed at that point). Thanks to this thread I was able to see and appreciate these kind of endings and mentioned it to the table, however nobody else seemed to be as fond of the ending as I was.

A bit different but

Unpublished, as far as I know:

are trumps.

North leads.

NS to make 5 of the last 6 tricks.[/hv][hv=pc=n&s=saj654hd432c&w=skq7hakqdakc&n=s832h65432dc&e=st9hjt9dQJTc]399|300|

Same theme:

are trumps.

North leads.

NS to make 7 of the last 8 tricks[/hv] [hv=pc=n&s=sak53hdc2&w=sqj94hadc&n=st82hd32c&e=s76hdAKQc]399|300|

Same theme but harder

are trumps.

West leads.

NS to make 4 of the last 5 tricks.

Fails if you swap 4 and 5.

:) The last was my 1st ever composition :)[/hv]

I was playing in an ACBL Robot Tournament on BBO the other day, and this deal came up. The play was uninteresting, but the end position was great. And it came about with out any particular planning on my part.

unfortunately some mistakes were made in the actual play of the hand and I ended up having A A 5 opposite the three tens with LHO having KJ K
