fuburules3
http://tinyurl.com/7l9vv6v Ignoring the overall silliness of this auction, I'm curious about what people think the 3D bid should show. I wanted to bid 3D as competitive because I don't want to defend 3C when we have a 9 card fit and I'm not sure partner can compete if I pass. 3D shows substantial extras, so this causes my partner to look for game (and in turn my opponents to go nuts). In auctions like I think it is much more useful to be able to compete than to be able to show extra values. What do others think? I also probably would bid 2D the first time if I were GIB. Anyway GIB should bid 3♦ over 2♣

barmar
No, GIB needs 5 ♦ to jump to 3♦. For some reason, the LAW rules aren't matching this auction, which is why it thinks South is showing extra values. Georgi, can you investigate this? georgi
2♦ doesn't seem bad. It seems like delayed support which should ring alarm why it was delayed. It should be always with good length in the overcall, most likely 5+, as with 4th GIB wouldn't miss to give fit. However, the 3♦ showing 17-18TP no matter the diamond length is likely 100% GF for North having 10TP. This is how it comes the 3♥ GF bid. Then the simulation probably shows the defending either 4♠ or 5♣ is better then 5♦. Especially with the opps' vulnerability. The 3♦ looks like competitive as partner has shown support as well. Comparing with the other kind of auction, which is logically similar, here shows different requirement. 1♦ (human ) - 1♠(LHO) - 2♦ ( partner , support ) - 2♥ (RHO) 3♦ - 5+ ♦; 11+ HCP; 12-16 total points So likely that's the adjust which will help North and respectively EW to proceed properly.
