On the one hand I don't like 1NT with the club renonce. I wouldn't be too worried about leaving partner in 2♦ since partner will usually have a diamond stop and LHO may only have 3 cards in diamonds. Cascade Posted December 22, 2011 Report Share Posted December 22, 2011 I did a simulation and opposite 15-17 hcp with 4333, 4432, 5332 or 5422 (but not a five-card major). Partner had 4450 with seven or fewer points. Over 55% of the time opener had a four-card major. Less than 10% of the time there was no fit. The 5=2 fit could still play better than 1NT. The numbers were almost the same when i removed the 5422 hands from the simulation. I don't think you need to worry about the possibility of no fit. In the actual hand there was no fit and we landed in 2♦-1 with a 5-1 against us.
