Assuming average hand strength and suit texture, which fit scores most tricks?

6.....1

4.....4

2.....4

1.....4

the 6/1 or 4/4?

6.....0

4.....3

2.....5

1.....5

The 6/0 or the 4/3? Not leaving the 2-5 option open

6.....0

5.....2

1.....6

1.....5

The 6/0 or the 5/2? Not leaving the 6/1 option open

Anyone care to run a simulation?

Thanks to those that answered the poll. I had thought there might be some support for playing in a 6-0 vs a 5-2. The 5-2 doesn't offer much cross-ruff opportunity and after being tapped, I would think that the 6-cd suit would not provide a source of tricks.

Here are my simulation results for your three scenarios.

In each case I have used double dummy results and restricted the declaring side to have 18-22 hcp (average hands).

I did do some smaller simulations unrestricted in hcp. The results were similar.

The number at the end of each data set is the average number of double dummy tricks made.
