straube
Assuming average hand strength and suit texture, which fit scores most tricks? 6.....14.....42.....41.....4 the 6/1 or 4/4? 6.....04.....32.....51.....5 The 6/0 or the 4/3? Not leaving the 2-5 option open 6.....05.....21.....61.....5 The 6/0 or the 5/2? Not leaving the 6/1 option open Anyone care to run a simulation? benlessard
The 3 easiest bridge questions ive ever seen. Kindergarden bridge questions. I really don't understand what point your trying to make.
straube
I guess I'm a kindergardener. I have an opinion for all 3, but I'd like to see some confirmation. I think we're looking at tricks from a cross-ruff vs tricks from having one's six-card suit be trump.
akhare
Difficult to answer in a vacuum IMO, without having complete context of the hand, like side suits, trump split, etc...
straube
I would think that overall strength matters. The weaker we are, the more I would want to be in my six-card suit. The stronger, then in the 7-cd fit.
straube
Thanks to those that answered the poll. I had thought there might be some support for playing in a 6-0 vs a 5-2. The 5-2 doesn't offer much cross-ruff opportunity and after being tapped, I would think that the 6-cd suit would not provide a source of tricks. Cascade
Here are my simulation results for your three scenarios. In each case I have used double dummy results and restricted the declaring side to have 18-22 hcp (average hands). I did do some smaller simulations unrestricted in hcp. The results were similar. The number at the end of each data set is the average number of double dummy tricks made. 6421 1444 Spade Fit 0 0 1 0 2 0 3 0 4 1 5 17 6 98 7 244 8 371 9 193 10 63 11 13 12 0 13 0 7.863 Heart Fit 0 0 1 0 2 0 3 0 4 1 5 1 6 26 7 105 8 276 9 344 10 203 11 39 12 5 13 0 8.723 6421 0355 Spade Fit 0 0 1 0 2 0 3 0 4 18 5 80 6 253 7 339 8 239 9 66 10 4 11 1 12 0 13 0 6.92 Heart Fit 0 0 1 0 2 0 3 1 4 8 5 24 6 101 7 309 8 385 9 148 10 21 11 3 12 0 13 0 7.579 6511 0265 Spade Fit 0 0 1 0 2 0 3 1 4 1 5 32 6 118 7 215 8 140 9 38 10 5 11 2 12 0 13 0 7.09058 Heart Fit 0 0 1 0 2 0 3 0 4 1 5 9 6 61 7 168 8 196 9 95 10 16 11 6 12 0 13 0 7.68116

whereagles
If the 6 carder is like AKQJxx I don't worry of missing out on a side 44 fit :)
fromageGB
I prefer a 6-0 to a 4-3, but have no evidence to back this up!It certainly does seem to depend upon hand strength, as well as suit strength. I higher hand strength / lower suit strength pushes me more towards 4-3, and higher suit strength / lower hand strength pushes me towards the 6-0. Free
I prefer the 6-1 over the 6-0
