The solution is to win ♦K, draw trumps in 3 rounds (East discards 3 hearts) and then play 3 rounds of clubs. If East follows 3 times then play them for 0733 shape and drop West's ♦Q, if only twice then 0742 and finesse in diamonds twice since West led from a singleton. What is not mentioned in the article is the possibility that West led from ♦QJ7, where a simple surrounding play will work. We have to make this decision at trick 1 since we cannot pick up J972 with East if the first trick is won with the ♦A. How would you play the hand? and is it clear which line is best? If West had the Q-J doubleton (or the stiff J), leading the J would be better ( IMO edit: since there is a much lower probability of partner holding the Ace because of his preemptive opening ) .
