Same problem with just 6-card ♠ & game going values, no other 4-card to force.

Well, that's a novel way to miss 6♠!

 

I guess my p and I (assuming no interference) would bid:

 

1♣ - 1♠

2♣ - 3♠¹

4♣² - 4♦

4♠ - 4NT

5♦³ - 5♥⁴

6♣⁵ - 6♠

1)Game forcing, 6+♠

2) Any bid of a suit is now a cue for spades. With no support p will bid 3NT

3) 1 keycard

4) Do you have the Q♠?

5) Yes and the K♣

 

The interesting bid is 3♠. In my partnership 2♦ would be artificial asking p whether he has 3♠ and so that is also an option there.

In standard bidding 3♠ is invitational, not forcing, so your auction is not possible for us.

 

GIB currently wants a strong rebiddable suit to jump to 4♠ -- a 7 card suit headed by either AKQ or 4 of the 5 honors. That's a little strict, we should probably also allow 7 to AK or KQJ.

 

Finding the slam would be nice, but at least we should be in the right game.

 

My guess is that MSC would be split between 4♠ and 2♥.

 

Was this MP or IMP, and smart or dumb bots? I did some tests with smart bots, and at IMPs they bid either 2♥ or 4♠, at MP it was mostly 3NT. Dumb bots don't do simulations, they just make the book bid, which is 3NT (the rule says "If you have enough for game, and no forcing bid available, bid 3NT and hope partner has the stoppers you're missing").

auctions is to play the other minor as potentially artificial and forcing, why cant GIB implement that?

Yes, to invite with 6♠ we go through NMF. e.g. 1♣ - 1♠ - 2♣ - 2♦ (NMF) - 3♣ - 3♠ (now non-forcing). How would you play that sequence? I have thought about switching the meanings of the two.

Dumb bots on a lesson table. 4♠ is better but not perfect. But without any convention really hard to bid a slam here... so, "No offence", Robots! ;)

New Minor Forcing is after opener rebids NT, not after he rebids his own suit. In standard 2/1, 1♣ 1♠ 2♣ 2♦ is ostensibly natural (5+S♠ 4+♦) and a one-round force.

 

While I'm sure there are some who play that 2♦ bid as artificial, I've played 2/1 with dozens of partners and I can't recall anyone ever suggesting it. I also don't think I've ever run into that auction by opponents (of course, some could have had the agreement but the hands didn't come up while I was playing against them). So I disagree that this is a "pretty standard agreement".
