kgr
[hv=pc=n&s=skhakj9dkqcaqjt32]133|100|MP's[/hv]What would you open with this hand?I had following options available:- 2♦-multi followed by 3♣=GF-♣- 2♦-multi followed by 2NT=22-23HCP - 2♦-multi followed by 3NT=24-25HCP - 1♣- 3♦ preempt ♥ or GF ♥-♣ (3♦-3♥-3NT=GF ♥-♣) I opened 2♦: going for: 2♦-multi followed by 3♣=GF-♣ & hoping to find the ♥-fit when partner bids 2♦-2♠.2♦-(3♠)-Pass-(Pass)-??What do you call now? Free
Sure looks like a GF hand to me, so open 2♦ in your system, followed by 3♣. When opps intervene with 3♠, I'll just Dbl.
Cyberyeti
While I open 1♣ on some pretty big hands, this one is just too big (♥Qxxx and out is probably sufficient for game). So 2♦ and then double seems best.
kenrexford
Good advertisement hand. If playing M.I.C.S., open 1♣ strong. If playing New Frontiers, open 2♣(typically no 4-card spades). If partner responds 2♦, then rebid 2♠ (heart-minor canape). If partner agrees hearts next, great. If not (2NT), then bid 3♣ (four hearts, longer clubs, 0-2 spades). If playing standard strong 2♣, but with my tweak on "Kokish,"♣ open 2♣, and then if partner bids 2♦ rebid 2♥. When partner bids 2NT (usually does), rebid 2NT (major-MINOR canape). After 3♣ relay, bid 3♥ to show four hearts and long clubs. If none of the above, open 1♣.
Fluffy
Agree with Cyberyeti, I don´t like GF openers with two suits but this will have to do. double 3♠ to show a strong hand (normally balanced)
kgr
[hv=pc=n&n=sJTxxxhqtxdxxxc9x&s=skhakj9dkqcaqjt32]200|200|MP's[/hv]I had following options available:- 2♦-multi followed by 3♣=GF-♣- 2♦-multi followed by 2NT=22-23HCP - 2♦-multi followed by 3NT=24-25HCP - 1♣- 3♦ preempt ♥ or GF ♥-♣ (3♦-3♥-3NT=GF ♥-♣) I opened 2♦: going for: 2♦-multi followed by 3♣=GF-♣ & hoping to find the ♥-fit when partner bids 2♦-2♠.2♦-(3♠)-Pass-(Pass)4♣-(Pass)-5♣-AP(LHO had ♣Kx, so this did go -1)I agree that DBL is a better bid then 4♣. Question: After you open a multi and opps overcall f.i. 3♠ like here, Would you DBL with all hands (GF minor, strong NT hand with or without stop) or is DBL showing something more specific? Free
I'd only Dbl for takeout. This hand has 2 good suits and KQ in the other, finds it ok if partner passes,... If I would have ♠xxx and 8♣ from AKQJ, obviously I'd bid ♣.
Fluffy
your main concern is to distinguish between weak hands and strong hands, balanced hands have no other bid than double so that's what you use for with balanced. The other strong hands can bid on or double.
