barmar
The book bid is Pass, it simulated. The description of its pass on the previous round contains 9- HCP.
WBreedyk
Why is BBO wasting time, money, and resources to their inferior robots ??? Please, if you don't enter computer tournamets, I suggest you give up on in-house development.
Bbradley62
I like the 3♠ bid; I don't like the explanation. It appears that the explanation egged West into bidding too much. The book bid is Pass, it simulated. The description of its pass on the previous round contains 9- HCP.So, GIB's book says that with 9HCP and a 5-card major, opposite a 15-18 NT, you should sign- off in 2M and not invite game? I'd like to suggest that the book needs editting.
barmar
The rule for inviting with 9 HCP takes precedence over the rule for signing off. This happens because a rule may be reached via various different auctions, and in some of those auctions he could have up to 9 HCP. Just not this specific one. 9- doesn't mean he can have up to 9, it just means he has less than 10. If other aspects of the auction limit him to 7, for instance, it's still true that it's less than 10.
Bbradley62
9- doesn't mean he can have up to 9, it just means he has less than 10. If other aspects of the auction limit him to 7, for instance, it's still true that it's less than 10.This, of course, is not helpful to the user; if GIB's various bids in an auction have limited him to a range of 8-9, the explanation of his most recent bid should say 8-9, not 6-11 even though 8-9 is within the 6-11 range. So, back to my statement in the OP... The 3♠ bid is explained as 8-9 total points, which cannot possibly be accurate due to the prior pass. It does not say 9- which could be concealing a truth of 7- or some such, it says at least 8. It should be clear that EW confused themselves when one signed off in 2♠ then competed to 3♠ when pushed, and the other one freely bids more after that. barmar
I understand this isn't really helpful, I'm trying to give you realistic expectations. Fixing this is hard. We're exploring some ideas, but I don't want to make any promises.
