y66
Barney Frank, a Top Liberal, Won’t Seek Re-election http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2011/11/29/us/FRANK1/FRANK1-articleLarge.jpg One thing Mr. Frank has not tired of, he said, is defending Dodd-Frank against its many critics and being seen, and often attacked, as the Congressional figure most closely associated with the legislation. “Being vilified by some of those people is a badge of honor,” he said. “My one regret about leaving is that some of these people may derive some comfort from it, but they shouldn’t, because I’m going to be there fighting them just as hard in this other venue.” His penchant for petulance was on display at times Monday; at his news conference, he dismissed what he called a “gotcha” question from a reporter about his personal investments and, upon learning she worked for Fox News, said, “Quelle surprise.” He also said he looked forward to leaving office so that “I don’t even have to pretend to try to be nice to people I don’t like,” leading another reporter to ask, “Have you ever?” “Some of you may not think I’ve been good at it,” Mr. Frank said. “But I’ve been trying.”I'm going to miss this guy. y66
That is right up there with the discussion of kickback during the Bermuda Bowl finals in Veldhoven.

y66
It was last train, not kickback. Sorry. Starts at 6:28 at
kenberg
As near as I can get it from the interchange, Barney Frank seems to be correct. I am more than willing to admit that I do not know parliamentary rules, but it is not hard to see that the question was totally phony. Even if not, it was immediately answered. The rules do not permit an amendment. Question asked and answered. We have all had the experience, have we not, of being pestered by irrelevancies that were known to be irrelevancies and where the pest makes it clear he will keep being a pest until someone forcefully tells him to stuff it. Then, of course, he is very upset that someone would speak to him in that manner. But it is someone else's fight and it is foolish to enter into a brawl when the outcome has no effect on me.
BunnyGo
Sorry. I completely agreed with Barney Frank in that matter. In general he could be harsh, but it was because he is too smart to put up with idiots, and not such a great politician that he could hide his contempt.

barmar
I kept waiting for him to say "the gentleman will STFU." :lol:Apparently that's what "suspend" means in Congress-speak.
blackshoe
Perhaps 'suspend' is Barney-speak for 'subside'.

kenberg
Great minds think alike, I also thought first of the purple Barney. And throwing him from a train is very appealing to me. It's all a conspiracy to rot the minds of my grandchildren.

Bbradley62
A college friends once explained to me that "the purple dinosaur is not welcome in our happy home". At the time, I thought Barney was Fred's sidekick.

That's the closest I've come to upvoting something for a reason other than that stated in my sig.
