kenrexford
We are white and opp are red. Opp opened. 3H-P-P-XP-? Here is your hand:S A875H 2D 53C KJT862 What would you bid? 4♥ for me. I know I should not be hanging partner, but I have a 7-loser hand and don't want to miss game to stop on a dime at 3♠, especially white (I might be able to afford -2). 4♥ should contextually mean four spades and a longer minor, I think.
jmcw
In the context of the auction I have about an average holding. Distribution may not be friendly and lefty could have a decent hand!Game figures to have a shot, but a bit of caution seems best. If I had another ♠ I would feel a whole lot better. 4♠ = 93♠ = 64♥ = 35♣ =
ggwhiz
When pard doubles they MAY be on the short end of the high cards IF they are short in ♥. Since I don't think they are I'm bidding to game. I like the 4♥ cue in case they have only 3 spades but they always(?) have a real hand or rho would have raised. Yu18772
Partner can have 2 hearts and an ok hand (with intermediate hand and 3 hearts, may be LHO hoped to buy it at 3♥ for whatever reason) or partner may have 3+ hearts and a very good hand. In both cases I think my hand is prime, and slam is not out of picture, so 4♥ for me. I totally agree with kenrexford that in context it should mean good hand with 4♠ and longer minor, but if it is not discussed I cant expect partner to get it at the table, and 4+ level is a bad spot for bidding misunderstandings - so if you are afraid that partner would expect a stronger hand, 4♠. 3♠ is really not a good bid imo. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
whereagles
I'm gonna mastermind this hand on grounds that pard and LHO are aching to bid more. The reason is as follows: Either pard has a monster, in which case he might not have 4 spades, or RHO is going to bid 4H now. In both scenarios 3S works fine. - If LHO passes and pard bids 3NT, we're fine.- If LHO bids 4H and pard bids 4S, we'll have an excellent dummy. If pard passes 4H, we can now try 5C. If he doubles, even better.
