han
Of course getting to the finals was much bigger, but still, 1st feels so much better than 2nd!

Stephen Tu
Congratulations Justin. What's up with the ACBL Daily Bulletin? "Lall, an accomplished junior player?" WTF? No mention of "Bermuda Bowl finalist" !!!????
JLOGIC
Congratulations indeed to Justin, but I'm slightly puzzled that posters here seem to regard winning a national pairs event as more significant than reaching the final of the Bermuda Bowl. I doubt Zelandakh was implying winning the pair game was better than the BB, I think he just meant in chronological order. But, Han made a good point, even though I know the BB was better, I certainly got a better feeling at the end of the pair game! Winning is winning, it's why most of us compete. Fluffy
Many people asked me who was the sponsor on the USA2 team, I will tell them now it was Grue! :P

We already heaped the congratulations on him then for that achievement. Are we now supposed to ignore him until he actually wins a world championship? Late to congratulate here, but I already did that in person. I want to congratulate you especially on getting to the finals of Reisinger, (okay playing 3 boards against our team, with a zombie who was sleepless till 4 AM that morning, didn't exactly hurt your chances seriously :)). If you had to pick between winning the N.A. Swiss or simply getting to the finals of Reisinger, which would you pick ?

han
Justin, congrats on making it to the third day of the Reisinger for the first time in your life!
JLOGIC
lol, I mean it was a reasonable question, but basically I view it a huge diminishing returns from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd. I think 2nd in the reisinger would be on par with 1st in the swiss, and 3rd would not be. There is something to be said for being able to say "I am a 9 time national champion" or w/e, even though all nationals are not created equal. And then there's the whole feel good thing about winning. That said, obv I wanna win the major titles, and to win them you have to play in them. 1st in the reisinger would be so much better than 1st in the swiss. rogerclee
If we are discussing difficulty of accomplishment, I would say winning the NA swiss is comparable to being something like 5th in the Reisinger. That is, I think it's about as likely that 6 clees will win the NA swiss as it is likely that 6 clees will be in the top 5 of the Reisinger. However, the NA swiss is also a more random event. 4 good but not top players having a good run can win the NA swiss or at least get into the high overalls. 4 good but not top players have no chance of winning the Reisinger, so to me, being 5th in the Reisinger is a much better indicator of skill than winning the NA swiss, since the Reisinger is a lower variance event. However, people remember who wins national events, even the less prestigious ones. Not many people remember who was 4th (or even 2nd) in the Reisinger in 2009. cherdano
It's easier for Team Cayne to win the Reisinger than to win the NA Swiss :)
JLOGIC
1st in swiss is definitely easier than 5th in the reisinger.
