Pass when you can bid

The other day I sitting South. East opened 1NT. I had 7 clubs to the AK and 19 HCP. I bid 2C.

 

My partner felt I should have let them have the bid of 1NT and set them.

 

In hindsight I understand that with a total of 40 HCP, East and I had most of them.

 

Some feedback would be appreciated on whether you would bid or pass and why.

What was your entire hand? Its possible to bid 3N over 1N yourself with a huge source of tricks and side stops.

when you are strong and RHO opens 1Nt you normally make a lot of tricks in partner´s suit, bu not many in yours, so pass and see if partner has something to say.

Were you playing penalty doubles of a strong NT?

If you have a shapely hand with short majors, there's a good chance you won't be defending 1NT -- LHO will probably transfer to his major. But having 19 HCP sitting over opener, you'll probably still set them.
