Finding the Spade contract

Holding 1087632 A42 Void AJ76, I passed in first seat and the bidding went as follows: P-P-1H-P-1S-P-1NT-P-3H-P-P-P. Since we play Drury, my question is, should partner have recognized that my hand has 6 bad Spades (a hand not suitable to a 2 Spade opening)? Would most experts assume that the 1 Spade bidder has about 10 pts, 6 bad Spades, and 3 Hearts for his bid? Partner's hand was QJ J10986 KJ64 K8 and 4 Spades makes with 3 Hearts down one.

Easy 1 opener for me so I don't have this problem. 1-2-2-3-3-3-4.

Unsure about the Drury sequence as I don't play it.

I had not thought about this sequence until you brought it up.

I think you are right, but maybe a 3 ( or 4 ) card limit raise with either a 5 or 6 card - - and definitely a hand w/flaws that you normally would not open 1, 2 or 3.

But partner here, will still probably pass 3H - - wanting to protect his Kings on the opening lead.

I am not sure 4 is an easy contract - especially if they start with AK....

About the auction - you may be right in principle, but i am not sure partner can deduce this at the tabe without prior discussion.

If you are playing checkbak or nmf by passed hand, then may be

1-1

1NT-2

2-3

should make partner think a bit longer....

using the LTC losing trick count--- open 1 spade and proceed

you have 3 losing spades-2 losing hts-none in diam's and 2 in cl.

against pards possible yarborough.therefore you will be rescued

by opps :) if pard has a modicum, all is well.

i would not abuse the system and open 2 spades or 3 spades

Good suggestion. What do you bid after partner bids 2H(2 OVER 1 forcing to game)? One possible sequence 1S-2H-2S-3D-3H-3S-???

For starters all the LTC books tell you DONT use LTC to decide to open a hand or not. This is a common miss use of LTC.

You only use LTC after you find a fit!

I open light and this is a borderline hand but I think I would pass with my hcp outside of spades.

the bidding might start:

p=1h

1s=2d( I mean diamonds are my best suit lets bid them)

2s?( with a void in d and no honors in s I might go slow?)

The opp with 20hcp might step into the bidding?
