USViking
This opening lead by GIB vs 3NT has got to be a bug, it has just got to be: From #2013 Express- Free TCR80% Automated Fun 2011-11-18 18:52 http://tinyurl.com/7qont6d I mean, a singelton when holding ♠AJ96543 vs a declarer who has denied a 4-card major, and no inference that dummy has any strength in Spades? After a slightly different auction at one other table GIB did lead a Spade.

barmar
According to GIB's system, the 2♥ bid shows 5+♥ and 4+♠. GIB currently assumes everyone is playing its system.

OK, so no bug after all. Thanks for the reply.
myprac
According to GIB's system, the 2♥ bid shows 5+♥ and 4+♠.Isn't it the reverse? 4+H and 5+S? GIB currently assumes everyone is playing its system.Everyone in this tournament is required to use GIB's system. But in bridge, as in life, many crimes go unpunished and some are actually rewarded. West was unaware the bid showed spades, and lucked out when East also was unaware, because otherwise East would likely have bid game in that suit, which would have been fun. End result, ironically, is to inhibit North from crushing the 3NT contract with a spade lead.
barmar
Isn't it the reverse? 4+H and 5+S?No. GIB only plays Smolen when it's a jump to the 3 level. I play invitational Smolen on the 2 level with my regular partners, but AFAIK it's not standard.
