paulg
The England team for the second weekend of the Home International Series has been published: Frances Hinden & Graham OsborneChris Jagger & Ian PaganJeffrey Allerton & Tom Townsend Congratulations to them all, but especially to Frances and Jeffrey who make such a contribution to these forums. They'll be given a warm Scottish welcome next March and will hopefully remember to go easy on the team that I'm captaining!

gnasher
Congratulations. I hope the selectors will continue to show such good sense when it comes to the European Championships.

hrothgar
Congratulations are indeed in order... With this said and done, what really caught my eye were the word's "warm Scottish welcome". I have grandparents who come from Ayrshire...I always associated this side of the family with word's like "dour", "forbidding", and "soused"... ahh
Scottish welcomes are always warm as in if you try to invade we set you on fire .BTW I think Hrothgar's word should be 'scoused' not 'soused' as in meaning a person from Liverpool. Nope, I meant soused, as in pickled to the gills
BunnyGo
Nope, I meant soused, as in pickled to the gills I thought you both meant the same thing. :D Congratulations Frances and Jeffrey!
lamford
Congratulations Frances and Jeffrey!Yes, certainly an excellent year all-round with the Gold Cup win, Premier League runner-up, bronze medal in Poland, winning the Young Chelsea knockout and coming third in the Lederer Trophy, for some of the team. JLOGIC
Gold Cup is the equivalent of the spingold in USA right? As in, the most prestigious team event, or one of the few major ones in the english cycle? Edit: Oops I just realized this is a different congratulations Frances thread! Congrats on being selected! Lol. But yes, it's generally regarded as the most prestigious event on the calendar. It's British rather than English, and until the quarter-finals matches are 48 boards and played privately. gnasher
It's limited to British citizens or residents, so it has a less international flavour than the Spingold. It's also rather easier to win.
