Can there really be someone who doesn't use 3NT/3S (or something else) to check for side shortness? At that level I agree. Could it have been some World Class players without much partnership discussion? There still has to be a better way than 4nt. I'm also surprised that Jec's partner bid the grand after finding a parking place for his small heart but NOT finding the ♠K. I would think the splinter is on with 4 trumps lacking it on this (aproximate) shape. In my partnerships, I am on firmer ground with my responses than GSF responses, which seems to come up more on internet bridge forums than in real life.
