gnasher Posted November 8, 2011 Report Share Posted November 8, 2011 Opinions seem to vary about a Lightner double when the leader has shown a weak one-suiter. One argument is that it asks for a lead of your long suit, because:- That's the only suit where a ruff is possible.- It's unlikely that they'll be in slam with two fast losers- Without the double you might lead a side suit anyway. The other is that:- Leading your own suit is normal, so double asks for another suit (presumably a spade in this auction).- If there is a ruff available in our suit, a double will just encourage them to bid 6NT, which will often make.
