Why are opps playing undoubled?

The book bid is double, but simulations told it not to. Most of the hands it's giving to partner are minimums with 5-5 minors, which are not very helpful on defense.

Make E/W non-vulnerable, then it's more likely to double them (but only slightly -- 6 out of the 11 random seeds resulted in double). Vulnerable Michaels cue bids require 12 total points, versus 9 for non-vul, so making them non-vul leaves more room for opener to have a non-minimum.

GIB plays Unusual Over Unusual. So in the above auction:

Pass: <10 points, no suit to bid

3: long clubs, 7-9 points

3: diamond support, 7-9 points

3: limit raise in diamonds

3: 5+ clubs, 10+ points

Double: everything else

Note that the Double is also used for hands too strong for a limit raise in . I gave North a 4351 hand with 17 HCP and nice diamonds, it doubled and then doubled 3 most of the time, except when its simulations told it to try leaping to 6 -- it never even considered 5.

With 5-5 minors, shortness in H, partner can usually pull this penalty double to show his shape. So gib shouldn't really make the final decision on the assumption that partner would pass the double with 5-5 and weak hands. So it's likely a system flaw.

Was it matchpoint or IMPs/total points? I just re-ran my test in matchpoint mode, this time it always doubled. At IMPs, you have to be 80% sure that you're setting them when you double them into a vulnerable game.

And I'm not sure I agree that South should pull the double. You could easily be rescuing them from their misfit into your own misfit. We've had complaints in the past about GIB pulling penalty doubles. GIB will sometimes rebid 3 immediately over 2 with a 6-card suit, but I don't think it will pull

IMPs. Free Robot Duplicate. I guess I should learn to include that in the original posts.

However it would work... if GIBs sit both North and South, I hope they find a way to double 2.
