Lefty leads the♣9 and the ♣J! appears on your right. The opponents are not the best pair in the field! Do you cash a 2nd ♣ and play for 2-2 ♠ to make 13 tricks?
gnasher
What was the bidding, and what would they lead from 9xx, 98x, 98xx, or 98xxx?
Hanoi5
Won't they throw their clubs on the run of the 7-carder? What if the lead is a singleton?
pooltuna
What was the bidding, and what would they lead from 9xx, 98x, 98xx, or 98xxx? You could ask if everybody followed to what has to be the technically correct play at trick 2 of the Q♠
whereagles
Cashing a second club seems risky. Most declarers will be playing for a single club discard, so you should probably do the same.
jmcw
What was the bidding, and what would they lead from 9xx, 98x, 98xx, or 98xxx? Pretty much clueless opponents, infer at your own peril.
gnasher
You could ask if everybody followed to what has to be the technically correct play at trick 2 of the Q♠Why would I need to ask that? If spades are 4-0, it's obvious what to do next.
JLOGIC
Cashing the club just seems awful to me. Yes on 2-2 trumps and 4-2 clubs you gain, but you lose on 3-1 trumps and 4-2 clubs! What's that, you say you'll pick up short trumps, short clubs? Well, you might, but you have to guess what to do, when they show out of trumps if you play a club and it gets ruffed you can no longer take a heart hook. Meanwhile, you are losing at least 1 trick on 3-3 clubs and 3-1 trumps, while just breaking even on 3-3 clubs 2-2 trumps. For my money I make 98x to be much more likely of a lead than 9x (though I'd say 98xx is the most likely). And on 5-1 clubs "cashing" the club will often lead to losing a trick, though you are sometimes breaking even. Those losses seem to extremely outweigh the gains. Free
I would play 6 rounds of trumps, discard a ♦ on the ♣Q, and take the ♥ finesse if ♣s aren't high. I hope to have some clues to decide which ♥ I should play in my hand by then.
