barmar Posted November 1, 2011 Report Share Posted November 1, 2011 The problem is that GIB doesn't have a good way of describing bids that have multiple, disjoint meanings. You raise a preempt to game EITHER because you have a weak hand with good support and you're increasing the preempt (that's the LAW), OR because you have a strong hand and at least an 8-card fit. The description then becomes the lowest common denominator of both rules: you have to have at least 2 trumps (if you have a strong hand) and at least 4 points (if you have good trump support).
