South handled this hand very poorly after 2 bid imo,

IMP, favorable, what would you bid and why ? Tell so if you disagree with his 2.

I will provide further development after your choice if needed.

Thanks.

I like 3H, showing heart cards denying diamond/spade cards....showing long clubs. Will concede at the outset that this isn't standard, or is hopeless in someone else's opinion. Anything constructive to disagree is always welcome, but 3NT is possible where a lot of clubs might not be.

:P Good problem. The one thing I wouldn't do is to mastermind the hand by blasting some number of clubs because pard's hand is unlimited. This leaves double, 3 or 3. Splinters are supposed to be picture bids, and I don't have the right picture.

Imo, double (for penalties and made more or less in tempo) is best since it uses no bidding space AND shows a control, 3 a close second and 3 a somewhat distant third. The only problem with dbl is that some partners on BBO might not consider it as being for penalties. What else it could be escapes me.

I can show my control later. Pard may have something like:

AKx

Qx

J9x

QJxx

and we can make six. It also facilitates getting to 3NT if pard has a double diamond stop

You are suggesting a penalty DBL, and you are giving us a hand that pd may have. We hold a suit of AKxxxxx and pd says he has 3-4 of them (most of the time) and u think of playing 2 doubled. Thats interesting view for me. And then you said pd may not take it as penalty. Suppose he understood that it is penalty and passed with the hand u gave us above. Make his QJxx QJx and so he can pass easier. Vulnerability is attractive too.

The problem is, how are u planning to beat 2 doubled with the hand u suggested ? We are cold for slam and all i see is 2+2 and maybe a trick for defense if we are lucky, where is the 6th trick ? Or did u mean that this is a penalty double, it should be a penalty double, but pd should never pass this ?

For those who bids 4 splinter, do you really think we have the strength to make slam if pd has a perfect hand vs this splinter ?

Assume pd has Axxx Ax xxx QJxx should he not go to slam with this ? If you suggest him not to, how will u find slam lets say another time when the guy who splintered had a better hand ? Kxx KJx void AKxxxxx

I am not saying 4 is wrong, i am just trying to find answers to questions in my mind.

I, too, await the answer to that.

South was me, and i handled this worse than anyone else can possibly handle. :) But after the hand, my opinions about how i shd have handled this hand were exactly as you suggested in your post. But i will wait for more answers to see if there is anything you and i may be missing.

I do expect to reach slam if partner has that hand. But partner is unlimited and the best description of my hand is that I want to be in at least 5 and have short diamonds. So I am going to take this chance to describe that even if I have to slightly overbid in order to do so. In retrospect, last train is too much though and the hand should definitely just bid 5 whatever partner does next.
