A2003
The Fredin DoubleRevisited by Jos Jacobs This is what happened here on Wednesday evening:NS +1630.There is a convention nowadays against this sort of auctions. A double after such wild bidding simply asks for a lead in the higher of the two relevant suits. So the combination of the double of 6NT, followed by a pass of 7 would neatly solve the E/W problem.[hv=pc=n&s=sk7hakq752dqcj942&w=s542h43dakj97ct63&n=saq86htd8432cakq7&e=sjt93hj986dt65c85&d=e&v=0&b=30&a=p1hp2c(Forcing relay)p2n(nonminimum with good !H)p3c(Tell me more)p3h(6!H and 4!C)p6n(sign off)ppd7c(run out)ppdppp {North now realised that against 7!C, a known 4-4 fit, the doublers partner would be on lead and thus might have a problem. Maybe, he also realised that whenever you ran from such a double, going to 7!C, would give you the greatest chance of success, historically speaking... Helmich proved absolutely right when East duly led the J!S.}]499|500[/hv] Reference page 5At 7 level run-out bid after 6nt, dbl shows lead ♠ and pass shows lead ♦, since ♥ and ♣ are shown by opponents. What is the name of this convention?
manudude03
You don't need conventional doubles. If there is a chance that the opponents can run to a potentially making grand, don't double just because you're on lead with an AK.
Zelandakh
N and W both seem to have been replaced in the bidding by beginners. What would E-W have scored for 6NT-4?
gwnn
There was a very similar auction posted by I think jlall about 4 or 5 years ago and Helene proposed a very similar defence (X=lead something, pass=lead something else) I am trying to find it but no joy yet. I think it was 1N-p-2♣-p2♦-p-6NT-pp-X-p-p7♣-x-p-pp 1NT bidder had 6 clubs and 7♣x made.
