I have doubled with all of them. For me, 3) is automatic (I'd do with with a Q less facing an unpassed hand, which is the agreed style in my regular partnership). I don't really know if I'm meant to double on 2) but was seduced by the vulnerability (or rather the lack thereof).

My partner doubled on the last one. When we were discussing style later, he asked how many of his actions I totally disagreed with, and that was the only one. I hate double.

I don't know what we actually did on the first two because I don't recognise them, but I have voted on what I would do.

Well second hand is from the same match as third one, just 2 boards later (reverse chronological order here)

My partner doubled on all of them and I made 1 less trick than I should on all of them.

I collected:

-380 on first

-800 on second

-1400 on third

I'd overcall 1H on the first one, what are the four flaws? As I see it, this hand satisfies the cherdano rule: 10-14 HCP, non-vulnerable, a very good suit and not suitable for a double.

I had the third one at the table and doubled. Why do you hate this Frances? I consider it the most automatic of the three, but gnasher considers it also the most controversial. What is the alternative to double, I would hate 1NT on jack-third in a major and pass just looks bad.

What's the whole auctions(or even better whole hands)? Maybe it's not a problem with X/pass/overcall but the problem of later auction.

On the third one the problem is that partner has a 4342 with the only high card the king of spades, and when 3rd seat redoubles you have nowhere to go. There were body parts strewn all over the room on this hand.

It's the wrong vulnerability, and it has the wrong spade holding. I think pass is just normal, as does my husband. (My partner thinks double is just normal, so there you go...)

When you overcall on a four-card suit, you risk that partner will overcompete, compete in the wrong suit, or lead the wrong suit. These risks are increased by the quacky holdings in the side suits, and by the possible fourth-round heart loser.

As Frances says, it has a bad spade holding. It also doesn't have diamond support.

first hand partner has

KQ9xx

xxx

10xx

Jx

And makes a stupid defence to 1NTX allowing to endplay the doubler for -380

second partner has

Axxxx

xxx

xxx

xx

RHO redoubles with a good 6124 and partner escapes to diamonds, then to hearts. Actually the problem here is my partner passed as dealer with 12 HCP, but I knew everyone would disagree with the pass so post the problem at the next point.

Third partner has:

K9xx

xx

7xxx

8xx

and bids a direct 2, perhaps your escape system lets you pass and play 1NT or 2 wich are better.
