TWO4BRIDGE
Bermuda bowl ( 10/25/2011 )board # 211 IMP swing West Declarer in 4H ... making on repeated Ht leads by North.Yet, in the other room it was set starting with a non-trump lead. Can it always be made on a non-trump lead by North ? ( Declarer seems to be limited entries to hand for repeated deep-trump-finesses and Cl lead(s) not to mention handling the 4-1 Diam break). Twice: One pair made.... while their team mates set in the other room -- an 11 IMP swing.---USA2 vs USA1---Netherlands vs Italy [hv=pc=n&s=s98764h4d52c98532&w=sajt5ht872dk86c64&n=skq2haq53djt94cat&e=s3hkj96daq73ckqj7]399|300[/hv]
lamford
I think it will make on all lines. If North leads trumps, declarer will come to two clubs, three diamonds, one spade, three trumps and a ruff. If North leads, say, the JD, then declarer can play trumps. Even if North gets to ruff a club, he will be squeezed in spades and diamonds later on. How did it go off?
TWO4BRIDGE
How did it go off?If Declarer successfully deep-finessed trumps twice, then he needed to ruff the 4th Diam ( if he could ascertain the 4-1 split ).Otherwise he is danger of losing 2h, 1c, and 1d. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Edit: Also, one Declarer started Clubs in dummy with the King...which led to his demise. rhm
Edit: Also, one Declarer started Clubs in dummy with the King...which led to his demise. I do not understand this comment. Starting ♣ from dummy is not fatal. The idea of ruffing the ♣ loser high in hand looks sound to me. Rainer Herrmann

Rainer HerrmannIf I recall, in this case, North either got 3 Ht tricks and the Club Ace... or 2 Ht tricks, the Cl Ace and the Diam Jack.
