A very nice 6 contract by taymim and serdals32 on Board 14 of Sunday's Abalucy pairs (mp) contest run by MCSD.

I am not overly fond of the leap to 5's, but it is very hard to argue with success... The play was nice. Here, Serdals32 cashed spades, ruffing one to isolate a spade menance, and played this hand as a double squeeze, hearts and clubs on WEST, spades and clubs on EAST...so if clubs happened not to be 3-3, the hand comes home.

T1. C8.. .time up.

Im sorry to say u cant see the play couse the time run out, and we got and ave- but u can all see it makes on this layout, only a dimond lead kills it:))

This is why i love this game:))))

ps, and to all of u that shake ur heads and think" wow he was lucky, waht a silly bid, p have this hand onece in a thousand hands!!".

let me tell u im not that pessimisstick, and i bid a bit more "wild" on internett then in f2f bridge. and what can p have? i see a lot of hands he can have where 6 spades make whitout dimond lead:))) and as said we werent doing well,we need a swing:))

A very nice demonstration of expert technique by ppilot in a topflight event. Doesn't "score" well, but very good bridge non-the-less....

With a club and two spade losers, ppilot will have to find the heart queen to make. WEST's negative double suggest legnth in hearts, East opening bid suggest values that might include heart queen. Some guessed to hook east, some quessed west... what ppilot did was go on a exploratory expedition to see what he could find out about the hand...

D2 D3 DA DT

DK S2 C3 D9

C5 C2 CT CK <<--- expert strategy play other suits to figure out how to play hearts....

C6 ST CQ C4 <<---spade pitch, loser on loser, and force them to show their values

C9 C7 C8 D5 <<--- at this point ppilot knows all...

East has club ACE, if had SPADE AK, that would 15 hcp and balanced hand and would open 1NT. Besides if EAST had spade AKJx he would likely continue spades earlier. So West had the spade King (or ace) to go along wth the club Queen. If EAST had two small hearts, his hand would be AJxx xx xxx AKxx, barely an opening bid, and surely not enough to risk a 2 rebid after a natural 1NT.. so ppilot plays the hand short in hearts to hold the heart queen despite the odds being 4-2 in favoer of WEST having the it (distributinonal count sure at this point... East opened 1C with 4, had three diamonds, and freely bid 2S...so hei is 4-2-3-4).

Well done, this is why it is such a good isea to kibitz boian, he makes even routine hands a nice lesson hand...

A very nice auction to 7D by reisig and icey in a topflight event against excellent opposition. Won 13.33 imps.

DBL of 2D showed values,

4H is splinter bid,

4NT was a SPADE cue-bid

5S was a second cue-bid

The play? The play was too easy...

Well, it is not nice for someone to self-propose, and actually

I don't think the hand per se is something remarkable,

but I quite liked a bid I made the other day,

sitting West, with a pickup French partner (first

time I was playing with him) against a Sayc pair,

one of them a star player.

Note that the psychic 1S was made under adverse conditions

(unfav, no big fit with partner's suit) but it still worked.

Opponents can make 3S (in fact, 4S has some play), but

they stayed at 3NT minus 2. Not that the stratagem won

many points, a mere 3.47 imps as you see here because

some NSs played at 3NT without any bid by W. Which also

may give food for thought

Self promote like crazy... we can have 20 hands per week (most poll will allow).. if we get more than 20, we will triage out some of the weaker good ones. If we were getting lots of submissions, maybe we would limit self promotions.. but for now, I think it is a requirement. I will discuss this hand a little bit in the Equality Takeout Double thread, as it is interesting....
