Free
In theory the slam is slightly less than 50% (♣A + ♣ ruff loses vs some specific distributions with ♣A stiff that win DD) so it shouldn't be bid.
Rossoneri
Indonesian ladies bid it anyway.

Aberlour10
@JL, you opened today 4D in first seat with KQJxxxx and K on the side, may you explain where do you see advantages for this style? tx & #fingers for tomorrow. JLOGIC
The exact hand was x xx KQJxxxx Kxx. I don't understand the question really...I see advantages in preempting them when I have a long good suit, 3 cards in the majors, and no aces. I am not a fan of the "but what if you are cold for 3N and not 5D" argument. Sorry could you be more specific? Like, I don't like opening 1D because it's not preemptive and I have very little D, I don't like opening 3D because I think my hand is worth preempting to the 4 level, and as I said earlier 3 cards in the majors and no ace is great for preempting since it's quite likely they make something. nigel_k
I am not a fan of the "but what if you are cold for 3N and not 5D" argument.Amen. But there are a lot of players out there who are very reluctant to preempt above 3NT in a minor suit. Four of a minor is a much better preempt than three of a minor. If the opponents can make a major suit game, which is quite likely, they have only a fraction of the space over 4♦ compared to what they would have over 3♦. Aberlour10
I did not mean in my posting if preempt.... but only why 4 instead
mfa1010
This was a swing in both BB SF: ♠ T7♥ AK9743♦ 7♣ K852 ♠ AK86♥ QJ65♦ AQ3♣ T7 The auction is uncontested, and the 16 count opens in 2nd seat. What should be the contract? If the auction makes it at least just reasonable for east to cash ♣A on the lead then it is a good slam.
JLOGIC
True, in our match both pairs played it by south on a transfer auction. I'd like to be in it from north.
ArtK78
Seems to be less than 50% even if declared by North on a non-club lead. Perhaps the possibility of a club lead makes the slam reasonable if played from the North hand.
BunnyGo
Here's another really pretty hand from the matches today. Edit: put in spoiler due to other thread presenting this as a problem. I do not know if it should be found single dummy. Board 21. Both USA teams were in 6♠. One auction (with no lead directing double) garnered a diamond lead and made without much difficulty (set up diamonds for pitches). The other auction had a lead directing double, and got a heart lead. The play to make double dummy is sort of a Morton's Fork unblock. [hv=pc=n&s=sj52hq9753dk5c764&w=st743h62daj8432ca&n=s9hkjt8dq96cjt985&e=sakq86ha4dt7ckq32&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=p1sp2np3dp3hdrp4cp4hp4np5cp5dp6cp6sppp&p=h5h2hthac3c7ca]399|300[/hv] At the table declarer took the very reasonable line of crossing back to hand with a trump, pitching a heart, ruffing a heart, crossing again and ruffing a club. Now to exit declarer cashed A of diamonds on which south unblocked his King. Now North was in to give a trump promotion by leading clubs. Instead (double dummy), notice what happens when declarer cashes the diamond Ace at trick 3. If south tries to unblock now, declarer just pulls trump, pitches a heart, and plays diamonds. The dummy is now set up and has a heart ruff as an entry. If south doesn't unblock, then declarer can revert to the original line of ruffing a heart and club, but then endplay South so there is no trump promotion. JLOGIC
Awesome *****in lead I made lol. We got owned by flannery on another hand, we had 22 HCP no shortness and had to find 4S after flannery... Amusingly enough we had a bidding misunderstanding and they started ripping us, if I had ran to 3S we would have been ripped for sure, but I bid 3N. AlexOgan
They got a 7 IMP slowplay penalty. (Justin just blogged "We picked up 50 on the set. Our teammates also lost 7 for slowplay last set, so we are up 63 with 1 set to go.")
