the hog
3C. We play this as showing a solid suit with nothing outside and asking for a stopper.

whereagles
How do you rate: Pass, 1♦, 4♦, 5♦, 3NT? Pass: in principle it's technically wrong, as it lets opps exchange information which can later on lead to a more accurate decision if you butt-in. Can work, but it's more likely it won't. 1D: dog-walking bid which doesn't even have the element of suprise of pass. 4D: you have some 1-2, maybe even 3, tricks vs a major suit game by opps. Seems like a good bid, as it might leave opps with the last guess. 5D: this is double-edged. It's good if opps have game on and bad otherwise. Opps have little to guess if you make this bid. They'll dbl you most of the time and from there on.. alea jacta est. 3NT: interesing bid. If pard can cooperate with a stop, this might be the only game that makes for our side. I might actually try this at the table.
ahydra
Not sure. I think I prefer to bid something like 3C asking for a stop if that's available. 5D is too unilateral but the hand feels too strong for 3D or 4D. ahydra
